Sheppey Treasures
40 hand painted ceramic tiles, installed August 2024
Sheppey Treasures is a new public artwork celebrating a plethora of everyday nature oddities found on Sheerness beach. The work depicts a colourful array of beautifully painted details of shells, stones, fossils, and ceramic fragments e.g. pipes. ThisĀ ceramic tile mural was created as part of a long term research project exploring how the artist can put drawing into the public realm. The artwork acts as a community curiosity cabinet or contemporary Vanitas, encouraging the viewer to enjoy the present moment.
The artwork is installed on Rides Mill Passage, just off Sheerness High Street on the side of Rumour Cafe, as part of Sheerness Seaside festival in August 2024.
