As part of the Gillingham POW! arts trail Medway Council have commissioned me to create a new drawing book and short graphic story. The arts trail opens on the 28th August 2021.

The Gillingham Drawing book is a new creative resource inspired by local architecture and heritage landmarks. This activity book invites participants to explore the town, look up, and use their imagination to add their own drawings to the blank spaces on the page. All you need is a pencil or a pen. Colouring-in pencils are optional. Collect your free copy in charity shops, cafes or in the library.

Graphic Gillingham is a short graphic story featuring words by Rosemary Tonks a writer and poet who was born in Gillingham.

Walk, Talk, Draw

Friday 4th June 2021

Meet outside: Rose Cottage Museum, Rose st, Sheerness-on-Sea,  ME12 1AH

 
For Estuary Festival 2021 artist Nicole Mollett will lead a walking drawing workshop around the town of Sheerness. Participants will be given a series of short drawing exercises inspired by the local high street architecture and maritime industrial heritage. The tour will explore some of the town’s hidden footpaths, back alleyways and the iconic seawall. There will be time to share and discuss the drawings created at the end of the workshop.

Everyone is welcome, no prior drawing experience is necessary. Materials including paper and pencils will be provided, but feel free to bring your own sketchpad. The walk begin at 2pm and last approximately 2 hours and starts outside the Rose Cottage Museum. There will be access to a toilet and hand-wash facilities within the museum at the start and end of the workshop. This workshop will operate following covid safety rules including wearing masks, social distancing, and limiting the number of participants depending on the current government guidance.

Island Projects is an independent non-profit curatorial practice based on the Isle of Sheppey which focuses on commissioning contemporary art in unusual public spaces.

” Phantasmagoria shows included devils, skeletons, ghosts and strange mythical beasts which were skilfully rendered using fine brush strokes onto glass. Projected from behind screens, sometimes animated using trickery such as moving projectors, smoke and mirrors. The aim being to convince the audience of their authenticity. These hand-painted visions were both frightening, comical and gloriously grotesque.  

Conjuring up supernatural beings from beyond the grave has long been a form of public entertainment. Whether through the Magic lantern, or in fairy tales, paintings or on the stage. A menagerie of beasts and monsters have always had a place in society’s collective cultural imagination. But do these diabolical creatures still have cultural significance today, and why are we still so fascinated by them? ‘‘

Home is where I am understood, 2020

I have been commissioned by Made with Many to produce a series of artworks which are a creative evaluation of the projects achievements thus far. This collection of artworks will include a large symbolic map of all the past projects achieved up to March 2020. This will also include works about Grow festival  under headings; Grow Water, food, light. A collection of drawings and/or gifs individual responding to main past projects.

Oz, the Mall Luton 2020

The Graphic Novel for Luton exhibition has been extended till the Autumn 2021.

Graphic novel for Luton is a unique collection of sublime stories, based on real-life experiences of people who live in Luton. Artist Nicole Mollett worked together with 14 writers and artists to create a collection of graphic tales about Luton. The project engages communities, celebrates diversity, and encourages intercultural connections.

Come and see the exhibition of over 40 original drawings on display in the upper level of the Mall. A smaller satellite exhibitions will be on show at the Well & Wise space in the Central Library.

GNFL Exhibition Opening

The Colossus and Other Stories was first launched at Utter! a spoken word event at the Hat Factory. The evening book launch was a great success, with rich mix of live poetry, music, and stand-up comedy acts. There was an audience of over 100 people, who each who took a copy of the publication home with them.

The main public launch on Saturday the 7th March, was curated Lee Nelson (who runs Utter!) over 70 people attended. There was nine acts; six were some of the writers, two were from Revoluton Arts Young poets group, and one was a performer from London. This diverse line-up made the afternoon event about more than just the exhibition launch. Guests enjoyed a choice of 6 cakes, and freshly cooked bhajis from Bury Park.

The comic drawing & zine making workshops are postponed this Saturday 14th & 21st March in view of the latest advice to delay the spread of Covid 19. The exhibition of original drawings remains open & on display @TheMallLuton on the gallery level.

We are planning a young people’s book launch in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire and @LCEPLuton to take place in the summer term. Updates will follow soon #GraphicnovelforLuton
